"For example 'secularism is the only truth and the mainstream absolute - therefore that is what should govern the main broadcasting channnels. All lesser worldviews and faiths should be sidelined and only broadcasted on less main stream channels.' This is a very wrong view. Secularism is a standpoint of faith just as much as Catholicism and other religions." Errrr, WHAT? What did that come from?????? What secularist has ever said that? Do tell. And as regards secularism being a 'faith', well, I must say I have never read such a lot of nonsense in my life. Secularism is a position one takes to ensure ALL sectors of society, regardless of their faith or lack of it, get equal treatment. Secularists don't say let this group's views dominate and suppress that groups, they say, they all have an equal voice, but no one dominates. Or, as Mill once put it 'everyone counts for one and no one counts for more than one'. There are religious secularists, but most I would guess are not religious. A secular society protects everyone. The 'frummer' and the atheist, the Sunni and the Shiite and the Sikh, Christian and Buddhist - all can exist in a secular society. But in our religiously dominated society all we are getting now is each different community trying to elbow the others out of the way. Thats why you end up with utter absurdities like one of the local Christian schools that recently had to make all the meat in its canteen halal, because the governors don't want to upset the tiny minority of Muslim students. Its stupid and under this government its going to get worse, because as 'Wacky Warsi' says 'this government does god'. |
