I have come back from enjoying the first day of unadulterated sunshine in weeks to see that David Lesniak has been spending the afternoon on his computer complaining and criticising people's ideas. Plus ca change. SPOILER ALERT: i don't want to ruin it for others but parking really isn't a constant feature in the report that David insists I can't have read. There is an ambivalent section of less than one page of a 78 page report devoted to this factor, the conclusion of which is that parking is place specific so they are wary of making sweeping generalisations. The majority of the report covers the factors that more interesting contributions to this thread have raised. Reducing volume of private cars in Chiswick centre (Kerr), entertainment and leisure rather than retail obsession (Watson) plus government interventions on rates and tax are the most relevant factors for Chiswick. Plus, as the report I haven't read suggests, strong local leadership to drive big changes. |
