You need to think about what kind of shopping you are doing. Unless you have money to burn in those expensive small clothes shops, Chiswick High Road is not a major shopping destination. It's somewhere you are going to pop to pick up the odd thing. I grew up in Devon. When we needed to do proper shopping, we went to Exeter. Our local high street just didn't have the shops. Chiswick is more like that small town high street. Even 25 years ago, I wouldn't have done any significant shopping in Chiswick. I would have travelled to Hammersmith, or High Street Kensington, or Oxford Street. Apart from Sainsburys, I will only go to the High Road if I want to pick up batteries from Robert Dyas, or other small things like that. I pretty much always walk or cycle. Even if the parking was free, I would still walk or cycle. I can normally lock my bike right outside the shop I want to go to. After driving around to find a parking space, I'll probably have to walk 2 or 3 minutes from where I could park the car. Much quicker to take the bike and park right outside. It's also normally quicker to get home by bike with the cars queueing at the lights on Sutton Court Road. |
