Jennifer I have to say that you are completely wrong in your view of how dominated the U.K. is by the E.U. May I recommend you google Jim Grace #FBPE and read his remarkable research, transmitted by Tweet, on the true extent of the ECJ over British law? Or just follow this link. https://twitter.com/mac_puck/status/1087360379691380736 He states "There is a type of of Brexiter who is motivated not by xenophobia, or Empire nostalgia, or buccaneering trade fantasies, but instead by "all them EU rules". Sadly they can never name a single one. So I have done some research..." The House of Commons Library was asked, Grace tells us, to carry out an analysis of the impact of the ECJ laws introduced by the UK legislature from 1996 to 2014. The report concluded that out of 34,177 laws passed, only 4,514 laws were judged to have been passed as a result of EU influence. The report goes further pointing out that the UK govt. actually voted in favour of all those laws with the exception of.........just 72. These 72 laws were voted against by the UK but the EU override obliged their adoption. And what do those 72 laws cover? Jim Grace has done us the great favour of looking into the contents of each of these laws showing them to deal almost entirely with consumer protection matters such as the correct labelling of food, the banning of certain substances in animal feed, and a number of environmental issues. In a word, the kind of thing that is actually taking care that as few EU citizens as possible are carelessly harmed. Thus 0.20% of our laws passed during the eighteen years researched can be attributed directly to EU influence acting on behalf of the wishes of the majority of EU members. 0.2% Jennifer, after learning these facts, can you still seriously argue that ‘the U.K. … has no power to change anything in our governance by an ever-increasing federal Europe’? If so, please do, otherwise admit that you have changed your mind. |
