I'm an older person too ! Have just taken early retirement. But houses are to live in, and the appreciation is a nice side effect of living in W4. But not much help if you live in, say Wolverhampton, who also face social care costs. Older people should have accumulated some capital after 30-20 years of work, but in the last 30 years the gap between those at the top and bottom, between old and young has grown enormously. That's why average 1st time buyer is now mid-30s. Lots of very rich old people and millions of struggling young people(who are working to pay out the state pension for over 66's) and destined to be poorer than their parents is exactly a symptom of social injustice. |
