Given there are only an estimated 100,000 properties over £2m out of over 20 million households, that's only 0.5% of households. And the average house price is about £175k across the country. But I guess there maybe 50000 between £1.75 and £2m who might justifiably be concerned they may pay in the future. so lets be generous and say maybe 1% of households maybe affected in the future. Its not an argument for not doing it. So even with house prices rising faster than inflation the vast majority of people will never be subject to it. especially if the threshold is revised occasionally. |
