What does happen if there is yet another property slump? Mansion tax shrivels. NHS struggles. Better perhaps to charge NHS users a small fee with annual maxima. And again impose another small increase on N.I - hypothecated in exchange for doctors being available for more hours per 7 day week. In exchange also for NHS trained doctors working a minimum of x hours per week for the NHS. And greedy dentists. £500 MT for a £2.1M house on top of CT???? My piddling little old crumbling Chiswick shack could possibly be worth 150 times what I paid for it. My income might only be between 15 and 25 times what I then earned. If the house rises in value by 10% p.a. for the next 2-3 years, should I be forced to sell it due due to swingeing MT? (If we had had MT for 10 years many would be broke). Why should I sell? I worked hard. My family and friends are reachable. My roots are established. It was I who created all of those without asking for help from the state. I live in a free country - not Syria. Most ungallantly British that it is being suggested I should move if MT keeps rising beyond what I can afford. The first who should move are those who rely on the state to house them. Why? I/we pay for where they live. If governments of the day want me to be public spirited and move, that, in time, suits me fine. But on one condition. With extensive social engineering (plenty of experience of that in the last 30 years) they provide work opportunities outside the South East to benefit the millions of poorer paid. Otherwise no deal. I wouldn't want to live in a desert. |
