There is no way the Treasury would let a mansion tax or a 'big tobacco' tax be ring-fenced for the NHS, and if Balls thinks it would he is living in cloud-cuckoo land; nor would either raise enough to make a significant difference to the NHS budget. This is empty gesture politics, playing to the gallery. Milibean Minor got his conference cheers for this ill-thought-out 'soak-the-rich' proposal and, basking in the glory of his supporters, forgot all about the deficit which is generating interest charges far greater than any silly mansion tax would raise. The man is not fit to be Prime Minister, and Labour cannot be trusted to run the economy. |
