Both ending westerly preference and the Cranford agreement were studied in the consultation document on noise (see thread on Heathrow Consultation - Technical Reports). In almost all scenarios, easterly preference is worst for noise overall, although very good for Grove Park - the proportion of planes landing in a westerly direction reduces from 76 to 45%. Ending Cranford would have no effect on Chiswick. I'd expect both to continue. There is a dream scenario for Grove Park if a third runway were to go ahead with the present north runway used just for departures. This produces the lowest noise profile overall, and hence allows the largest number of flights while keeping the area of the 57 dB contour at 2002 levels. This would alone make it BAA's preferred option. |
