As someone who was born in Chiswick and has never lived anywhere other than Chiswick/Brentford, I can honestly say that I am usually unaware of aircraft noise. Maybe I have simply become immune but rarely do I notice the planes or any noise from them. As far as pollution is concerned, I don't pretend to know the answers but I do know that the amount of cars on the road at present, which I'm sure no driver would want to give up, is probably just as responsible if not more so for causing pollution than the airport. Also, I am selfish. I happen to live, what is it, about 6 miles from an airport. I am really browned off everytime I want to go somewhere and have to travel to either Stansted, Luton or Gatwick all of which are about 50 - 60 miles away. This means hours more driving, travelling etc., etc., and as someone said earlier, just trying to get to and from one of these airports when you have one on your doorstep is simply adding to pollution and in my case anger and frustration. Obviously I would prefer to hop on the Picadilly line and 20 or so minutes later be at the airport of choice. Apart from the noise/pollution arguments, which don't really cut it for me, what other "blindingly obvious" reasons are there for people in Chiswick to object to the expansion? |
