Tomorrow I need to buy some fish. I would normally drive to TG - park for 30mins free and pick up some fish from the excellent Covent Garden Fishmongers and some other bits from the deli, veg shop etc. However, I'm not going to do that. I can't risk being stuck in the CHR jam so I will probably drive to Sandys in Twickenham! Yes, I think it will be quicker. I don't think I'm alone in changing my shopping behaviour because of the traffic chaos. And I am sorry for the Chiswick shops. And why don't I cycle there? I cycle every day to work and at weekends I do at least a 2hr cycle for fun. But when I'm shopping for a number of items, in wet and windy weather I don't feel safe with a heavy backpack and definitely I don't feel safe on CHR with the current traffic chaos. As I've said before - drivers in jams tend to do sudden unexpected turns. I'd much rather cycle in free flowing traffic anyday.. as any cyclist will tell you. Chiswick is being strangled to death by ill thought out designs that benefit no-one. It's almost as if someone wanted Chiswick to wither. |
