It is quite astonishing that seemingly it was an unofficial check on progress that revealed Thames Water's extended timescale for these works and Hounslow's subsequent belated decision to act. When were TW planning on informing the council of the true situation? I thought there was an agreed process for utilities to secure a licence for repairs - at the moment the expiry date for Acton Lane is till showing as midnight on November 2nd. This emergency has turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it has revealed quite starkly just how delicately balanced the road traffic equation in Chiswick is every day. Take away one more brick and the whole edifice crashes down. We simply cannot afford to lose vital routes like TGT and (to a lesser extent) Fishers Lane to half-baked schemes like these LTNs. |
