Richard, Fishers Lane was previously one of the major collision hot-spots on CHR. It was the only 'through-road' leading onto CHR that wasn't signalled. So there were cars turning left, turning right, some turning right to slalom across CHR to cut down Dukes Ave to the A4 and this was all at a junction with lots of pedestrians walking along CHR. Measures such as turning Fishers Lane into the main southbound route that would increase the volume of traffic along Fishers lane from what it would previously would be highly irresponsible IMO. Before anyone suggests it should have signals, I'm not sure if that is possible given proximity to other signals. And in any event, signals would introduce yet another barrier for pedestrians walking along the north side of CHR. A clear example of prioritising cars driving through over people walking. |
