'If a third runway at Heathrow gets the green light this summer, air quality in this area will be way over the limits' This seems highly unlikely. By the time the third runway is built it is likely that there will be a new generation of vehicle engine technology with much lower emissions and the growth in the number of planes landing at Heathrow will be offset by improved public transport access to the site. The increase in the number of planes is irrelevant to air quality in this area because they don't make a significant contribution to emissions until they have descended much further. The main, if not only reason, for the Government's delayed decision is political not environmental. Not sure why you have gone off on this tangent. The Chiswick Curve will be with us much sooner and have a much more significant impact on local air quality than Heathrow ever will. |
