Una, I saw this on the front page and have just been checking it out and putting it together with the amendments to the Local Plan that Hounslow are seeking to make. The subject of a post a few weeks ago. Poor Marie Rabouhans who works so hard on behalf of West Chiswick. In the report are 2 points that are enough to bring despair to most of the residents of Chiswick. The first is that the group applying have been 'having many in depth consultations with Hounslow's planning dept' and, as has been our experience in the past, suggests any application is a done deal. Oh how I would like to be proved wrong. The second point refers to the B & Q site and suggests that the development there will be even bigger and higher. Just when we thought that the preservation of some of Chiswick had been achieved, the rug is whisked away from under our feet and the fight starts all over again. On the matter of the planning portal being down just before Christmas, I wrote to the planner involved on another matter and was reassured that consideration of that matter would not happen until the end of January and he would receive any comments made to that point. I think you will find that they will do the same for this application as they will not want to be subjected to Judicial Review for not complying with the regulations. Finally, I entirely agree with you that the architectural value of this design is out of keeping with the area and pretty awful. You use the term 'international' and indeed that is just what it is. Singapore is such an eyesore some 30 years since I first visited and the glass buildings that have been inserted into the Berlin landscape where the Wall once stood are a brash statement not a friendly mingling. Perhaps that just reflects our society of today which is mostly aggressive and entitled. |
