| I'm afraid that isn't allowed Julien! It's illegal to send our waste to other countries and causing massive pollution in China when tipped onto the banks of the Yangtse river. Sending sorted goods to other countries where they are needed is another matter. Oxfam have been doing if for humanitarian reasons for many years and Traid are there for the same reasons. They know exactly what's needed at any given time. China produces vast quantities of unrecyclable goods for export especially battery operated plastic toys. It is also guilty of illegal and very dangerous tin mining for Apple goods amongst other sins. A lot of people die. As for climate change...... The charity shops here do send excess goods to less well off areas to some extent and I see it happening in Cancer Research with big crates being loaded into vans. Oxfam do the same. The textile merchants know what's needed where too with clothes, shoes, bedding and towels both in the UK and overseas. Some of the charities are less good with it and waste an awful lot apart from textiles which they are not allowed to discard. |
