Yes kerbside sorting is the best way although cumbersome and time consuming. There would be a lot of contamination with Ealings plans and many people will just put everything in both bins. With fortnightly collection it's likely that a lot of it would go to street corners and commons too. I agree with letting agents. The first thing new tenants want to know when they're unpacking, is what to do with the rubbish. Hounslow put callenders through the letterboxes with all details and collection dates including bank holidays which is very helpful. The statistics are what the EU require before landing us with huge fines. They also show which systems are working and which aren't and obviously the more recyclables which are collected the better it will be. But it's also the people. Chiswick has always been the best area for both Hounslow and Ealing with Hounslow and Southall being the worst. An awful lot of people aren't going to apply themselves to it unless they're fined. Why should they if there's no personal cost to themselves? Scanning is the only way and why not when everything else is, including ourselves? It's a case of getting to grips with the centuries old throw away culture with all nationalities. Westminster collect twice daily to keep the streets clear and K&C twice weekly but their system is inadequate and they're tied into long term contracts. The Belvedere incinerator is there so that they can send it all by boat along the Thames. There are all the tourists but the same can't really be said of H&F. And wherever the tourists are staying it's still inadequate. |
