"and that requires general strikes, and mass walk outs by workers as well as students. ..." "Oh yes, making money of course, and proping up the bankers....they must get there bonuses after all." I support the peaceful protests by students as I believe the increases in fees are over the top. Of course I would prefer that Uni was totally free (as it was not too long ago) but times have changed. There simply isn't the money to support this anymore. HOWEVER, lets not forget that our mass walkouts by workers and general strikes are amongst the real reasons why we are in a mess and our manufacturing industry has all but ceased. Why do you think foreign investment in our manufacturing industry has practically ceased? Why do you think our factories and plants lie vacant around the country and why China and India are now booming. Consider also that the few industries remaining employ many eastern Europeans who aren't so quick to 'down tools''. Captains of industry love them. I am not saying this is fair or right - its a reality. I too think that the behaviour of Banks is scandalous but its also a reality that UK still hosts a major financial capital that the rest of the world still admires and 'flocks' to. It has been much reported that students studying economics and finance are still assured of getting jobs in the UK and the whole world is also open to them but those studying for degrees affiliated with the manufacturing industry already face a bleak future in the UK. Peaceful demonstration is one thing but promoting strikes and walkouts (in my opinion) plays right into the hands of China, India and others. Is that what we want for the next generation(s) of graduates? Are we so determined to drive out the remnants of our manufacturing industry and force them to foreign shores and kill off our exports altogether? |
