The issue of bank bailouts is a tough one. It is done ostensibly to protect depositors money and maintain some degree of stability, and arguably, given the amount that UK banks have lent to Ireland, supporting the bailout is likely to be less damaging to depositors than allowing a second banking crisis as Ireland defaults. While I agree that cuts should not be made to 'pay for the greed of the banks' I dispute that this is the sole reason for the cuts - some are necessary to pay for the profligacy and lax regulatory approach of the previous government. |
