I take the point that appointing the Mayor may well be in the leader's gift but that doesn't change the fact that his method of appointment seems to have caused massive ructions. It seems odd that, given this is a role without any power, he didn't just leave it to a vote.

Thanks to the person who corrected me on the nature of the meeting taking place on Monday which is a Labour Group meeting not a council meeting therefore no opportunity for Tory mischief. Are the Labour councillors going to be presented with the appointment as a done deal at this meeting or will they have a chance to discuss and/or vote on it?
