Gone are the days when there was an overt degree of altruism in serving on local councils.It was done for a very modest allowance plus reimbursement of expenses. It is now solely about snouts in the trough with many councillors notably in Ealing having their council allowances as their sole or main source of income. No wonder they keep voting massive above inflation increases dor themselves. A councillor in Ealing voted out kast year is still unemployed as he is, in effect, unemployable in the real world.
