| Paul, I've now finished my Year 4 written home work and therefore feel equipped to hear your explanation of exactly what is going on here. As far as I can see there are two competing factions in the local Labour party (inevitable given the number of councillors they have). The council leader has promised the Mayoral role to one of his supporters. Members of the other faction are up in arms because one of their number wanted the gig. The nomination must now presumably be considered at the council meeting next Monday and have to be ratified by a vote of all councillors. Assuming the leader's faction is larger than the other one (otherwise he wouldn't be leader) then they won't have enough votes to overrule his nomination unless the Tories side with them just to cause trouble. This may of course be all wrong as I am of small brain but as Paul combines mighty intellect with great knowledge of the affairs of state he should deign to impart his wisdom to us - using words with two or less syllables if possible - and tell us exactly what is happening. |
