| Whatever your views on RBK&C they are the democratically elected representatives of a group of people on which this scheme has a major impact. If they weren't acting in the best interests of residents in their attitude to such schemes then there is a regular opportunity to change who runs the Council. The stretch along Holland Park Avenue is likely to be highly controversial - the reduction of much of the road to single file must mean more tailbacks and ratrunning in local streets and the bus islands required will mean a loss of trees and pavement space. H&F aren't as regressive as RBK&C but they do seem decidedly lukewarm about the scheme as well. It may be awkward for the project team who just want to get on with it but the wishes of local people do need to be taken into account. TfL do give the impression that they see local objections, even if well-founded, as just being an annoyance. |
