| What Kensington and Chelsea think shouldn't be taken into account. They are a total disgrace on cycling. High Street Kensington is one of the busiest routes for cycling in London, and there is no provision for it at all - not even any Advanced Stop Lines at the junctions. For those who are complaining about road space being taken away from cars, there is no alternative. Around 50% of particulate pollution comes from tyre and brake dust. The only way to fix air pollution is to reduce the number of car journeys. Ultimately this will be done by Big Brother tracking where you go and road pricing. That's a way off, as it would be politically unacceptable at the moment. In the future though, when driverless cars arrive on the scene, and people can use a car to get into central London without having to pay £30 a day to park, there will be total gridlock. At that point there will be public demand for some king of scheme to reduce the traffic. |
