| You can check the scheduled train times down to the minute using the working timetables (WTTs) and there is very little difference between both branches. For example, Richmond branch 7 trains eastbound between 8am-9am compared to 6 on Ealing branch. Both branches have 6 trains per hour in each direction outside of peak times. https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/working-timetables On the Uxbridge/Rayners Lane branch, we don't yet know if or how many of these trains would stop at Chiswick Park. Assuming there are new points installed between Turnham Green and Chiswick Park, if all westbound Piccadilly line trains stopped at Chiswick Park then the westbound Piccadilly line platform at Acton Town and westbound Piccadilly line tracks between Acton Town and Turnham Green (technically between the points) would be unused. That isn't going to happen so either only Ealing Broadway bound trains stop at Chiswick Park or a small proportion of Heathrow and Rayners Lane bound trains become "Chiswick Park stoppers". I also think you are overestimating the number of people who will travel out from Chiswick to Ealing for Crossrail, certainly for the stations west of Canary Wharf. Psychologically it is going the wrong direction, a longish interchange at Ealing Broadway for a train that will be packed like sardines? Compared to a better chance of getting a seat on an underground train... Convenience and comfort beats maybe saving a few minutes. |
