| 'The frequency of the Richmond branch of the District line is the same as the Ealing branch but the Richmond branch has a lot more passengers.' Not convinced this is correct. The Ealing trains tend to be less crowded in the morning but that is because there are more of them coming out of the depot. In the evening it seems much of a muchness. There may be a over-count of Richmond passengers due to the parallel North London line service as far as Gunnersbury. "The Piccadilly line replacement of the Ealing branch of the District line is unlikely to have significantly higher frequencies than the District line at the moment." Aren't you forgetting the Uxbridge/Rayners Lane branch? The combination of that with the new Ealing branch will lead to a significant increase in regularity even if you assume no Heathrow trains stop. 'Crossrail at Ealing Broadway is likely to take passengers off Central and District lines further reducing the number of passengers on this branch.' This works both ways. There will be a significant rise in the number of people using the branch to get to Crossrail. It will become the main commuting route into City and the West End from Chiswick as for many journeys it will be quicker than going from Turnham Green even with a Piccadilly line service. For Chiswick Business Park workers there has been a disincentive to use Chiswick Park station because the walk is further so many wait for a Richmond branch train and get off at Gunnersbury. If you have a faster service with fewer stops this will mean that a significant proportion coming in from the east will plan their journey using the Piccadilly line and lead to a shift away from Gunnersbury. |
