"I am aware that planners are not much interested in local concerns and prefer to be guided by Plans, Directives and Strategies" That is a very good point which underlines why the interested public have such contempt for Councils. Do we have any feel for how the Localism Bill will change that? Will developers benefit more or will the public? I think it was Churchill who said something along the lines that we don't know who we are if we do not know and appreciate our heritage. Its a great pity that we don't have more better educated Councillors who can balance this with good and interesting new design which makes our environment a better place to live in and gives a stronger sense of belonging to a community. Andrew Marr's current series on different types of megacity living gives food for thought. Watch it and think. |
