The item seems to me a fairly objective view of the changes and the vitriol it has inspired seems incongruous - a score being settled no doubt. Our own experience of planning officers (in another borough) does give rise for concern about less democratic supervision. Objections we made were dismissed in the most supercilious fashion by a Council planning officer so we engaged a planning consultant who told us that there were several clear reasons for our neighbour's plans to be turned down and was amazed it had got through. Her explanation was that it is just so much less work to wave something through and so the default position for overworked planning departments is to do exactly that. |
