Monica, not at all, I am/have been involved in the planning profession from all angles, as a Council Officer, as a developer, as a planning consultant acting both on behalf of developers, Councils and third parties, and as a member of the public - so I'm got no 'scores to settle' with anyone (well, except for perhaps the Director of Planning at Hillingdon, but that's nothing to do with this !). It's comments like yours about 'less democratic supervision' that set my alarm bells ringing - the vast majority of elected Councillors have no planning qualifications, no planning background, and receive extremely limited training, so some people (not me I should stress, but I've heard it said by other non-planners on many occasions) think it's absurd that there should be any Councillor involvement in planning decisions. |
