There are unpleasant things that might happen to us, on both a personal and a global level, and there are some unpleasant things that definitely will happen to all of us. What we don't need is to be told about them and lectured on them incessantly. The fact that we don't want to hear this endless haranguing and doom-mongering doesn't mean that we're in denial, or stupid, or failing to understand science, it just means that we have absorbed the messages and can be left to make our own minds up about them. We don't need to be continually lectured by the likes of George Monbiot and Jonathan Porritt who spend their time flying around the world to Very Important Conferences in order to tell the rest of us that we mustn't ever fly anywhere. We've got the message. Enough, already! |
