"And climate change can occur fairly quickly with or without man's help. I am sure you remember just a 200 years ago the Thames used to freeze all over!" Martin. I have to assume you're being serious. No I don't remember the Thames freezing over and I'd be fairly suprised if you do. Over the last 2000 years the temperature was fairly stable, about 0.2 degrees fluctuation. As industry built up so the weather got more extreme. We now have more rainfall and higher tempretures than in the previous 2000 years. So did the Thames used to freeze over? Very much so. Until the 1950s London was a very cold place with snow staying put for several months. According to what we know about natural processes we should be colder now. So what could have happened in the last 50 years to make London so much warmer? Here's some data from the BBC. http://tinyurl.com/36e2dj |
