| Mick, there's no easy way to say this, if you're think it's a gimmick then you really really havnt done your homework. I can rattle off facts till the cows come home but if you don't want to hear you won't listen. You'll also jump upon any little scrap to make you feel better. I tend to go with hard scientific research. HIV HAS killed 25 million, it COULD have been much worse but condoms came back into fashion. It still is a huge prolem in places like Africa. Bird flu was never going to kill us all unless it jumped species then it COULD have been a major killer. The world HAS got warmer by more than the 0.2 fluctuations we would see nautraly and ALL projections are that it's going to get warmer still. What we don't know is the exact effects of this but it will be increasingly erratic weather leading to more expensive food and forced migration, which in turn leads to increased political problems as different groups of people are forced to mix. Food prices will continue to rise, oil prices will continue to rise because of the political problems in countries where oil is kept and the increased rate of natural disasters will just add to this. The scale is debatable but not if some of this will / has happened and is the result of man made global warming. The only thing that's not going to happen is we are going to get colder over the next 20 years. |
