I would like to remind people that No 1 Dukes Avenue was given to the people of Chiswick in trust to be used as a library by the Sanderson family. If ever it were not to be used as a library, it was to revert to being a private home. Note that it belongs to the people of Chiswick and not to the Council. I suspect the Council may be (ab)using the terms of the trust by giving part of the building over for private use. This is disgraceful! The old (Labour Council) plan for the library was to long-lease it to Barley Mow Passage who wanted to expand their office space; the library was to be pushed into the basement. I was always against this idea as people who attended the public meetings may remember. At least we got to debate the issue. A/c to a recent email from Councillor Thompson, the Council has to decide on 3 potential bidders before finalising the terms of the contract. Excuse me! When were council tax payers consulted about this? It is an absolute disgrace and we should be taking to the streets! Meanwhile, I have asked Councillor T, twice, what is to happen to the local history collection which is an invaluable source of information, lovingly built up over many, many years but which could - at the stroke of a pen - be consigned to the scrap heap. Come on Mr T, own up - what is to happen to the collection? And do you plan to sell/lease off the top 2 floors of the library. How will people access the flats? How will this affect library users? How will this affect the look of the building? What about cars? What about late-night noise? The people of Chiswick want to know and it is your job to tell us! - P Mayorcas am equally opposed to the current proposal -albeit we have no details and the Council clearly intends to tie it all up before anyone can have their say.t details since it |
