What public consultation has there been on this, given that the Council claims to believe in transparency and public engagement (as has been heavily promoted in this forum)? Some years ago when there was a proposal to redevelop the library in partnership with The Barley Mow work centre, there was great deal of open consultation, leading to an eventual rejection of the plan. Now, a long-term contract for the library and parks seems to have been given to a company better known for property development and building than running public services - without any evidence I am aware of that the public has been consulted in any way before long-term contracts have been signed (apparently 'no comment' from the council for reasons of commercial confidentiality). When a thread on this was raised a few weeks ago, no councillor thought it worth the effort to comment, which is why I am left assuming no consultation took place - and that the Council is waiting for the deal to be done before we are let into the secret. |
