I think it is harder. Probably this is partly because we are not used to driving at this speed and we find it more difficult to judge. Perhaps it will become second nature eventually. There is also an issue with speedometers being less accurate at lower speeds so a driver may actually be travelling below the limit but getting an indication that he she is not. Sat Nav devices aren't necessarily the answer in this context as they aren't that accurate and average out speeds so you will have travelled some distance in a 20 mph zone before you are notified you are above the limit. Just to be clear, I am 100% in favour of 20 mph limits on local road and think they have worked well in north Chiswick where they have been implemented. Drivers have generally slowed down though most probably still exceed 20mph on the Avenue, Southfield Road and Acton Lane. |
