Yes David you are being twittish. People who stray marginally over the 20 mph limit are not potential killers. I've been driving on the roads with the new limits for a few months and still find it hard to judge. Most people driving under the new rules appear to be also finding it difficult as the general flow of traffic remains about 22-24 mph including buses. I'd say that it would be more dangerous for people in this speed range to be taking their eye off the road to check their speedometer than to continue on marginally faster than the limit. On roads like the Avenue or Southfield Road 24mph feels very slow and safe. Obviously if you are aware that you are going at this speed you should slow down but if it was rigidly enforced by fines and cameras that would probably make the roads less safe because drivers would not be watching the road as carefully as they should. |
