It looks like the inclusion of Chiswick High Road and Chiswick Lane were a bit of an after thought. I am broadly in favour of 20 mph but was surprised to read that CHR and Chiswick Lane were part of the plan. The consultation for last year specifies 'residential roads' which is uncontentious and possibly explains why so few people responded to the consultation (half as many as in H&F according to the figures given by David Millar earlier). http://www.hounslow.gov.uk/index/council_and_democracy/consultations/20mph_speed_limit_consultation.htm Chiswick High Road under normal circumstances during the day is a road on which you are grateful to get to 10 mph let alone 30 mph and given the regular crossing and lights even without traffic most drivers would stay around 20mph even with a limit. The exception would be the stretch between Chiswick Roundabout and Acton Lane where there are a couple of places you might get over 30 mph given a clear road and certainly the flow of traffic will be over 20 mph. On Chiswick Lane there is a stretch where drivers' speed will tip over 20mph quite easily. The late inclusion of these two roads might mean that the speed camera locations have also been identified. The 'Chiswick is a cash cow' conspiracy theorists might also note the lack of consistency across the borough with similar roads elsewhere not being included in the scheme. |
