After repairing some leaks in roof I took some bits and pieces to Stirling Rd Recycling off Bollo Lane and was handed a letter saying that from 14 Aug any DIY waste would have to enter the site via the weighbridge and would be charged at 26.00 per 100 Kilo. Funny? There is no enter and exit weighbridge there, and no system of taking money. I suspect the letter was actually meant for visitors to the Greenford site and somehow ended up in the hands of the Stirling Rd crew. Anyway the upshot is that they wont be accepting DIY waste and you may have to go to the other end of the Borough with your half bag of polyfilla and bits of rubble from now on. I was also told that if you want to dispose of eg a chest of drawers, you’ll have to take it in whole to prove it’s not DIY wood and then break it up on site. So be prepared when you do your little bit of DIY this weekend, that it may mean a trip to Greenford and cost more to dispose of the waste than it cost to buy the materials.( they charge 41.00 minimum for ‘construction waste’ which is what they’ll call your DIY waste) Also be prepared for the sight of more flytipping, because who is going to be bothered to go to Greenford and pay 41 quid to dispose of a bag of rubble. When I had a little whinge about this via Local Councillor we were told that DIY waste has never been allowed at Stirling Rd. I think they make it up as they go along, as they have with the wheelie bin scam |
