"I'm sure that £41 must be the Business Rate." Yes Philippa, it is but it is also the rate to charge private householders who live outside Richmond when using Townmead. At least that is what has been very clearly stated to me by Townmead office. I just somehow sense in the back of my mind that this is not correct which I why I persevere. But I have to admit there is no-one at Richmond council who has said there is no charge and even the MD of West London Waste Authority has not responded after 3 days with what the correct position is; perhaps he doesn't know. Yes I am aware changes are due in this whole area of waste disposal. I hope we will be told: I have only just learnt last week after x years that Hounslow householders are allowed up to 4 green garden waste sacks each fortnight and all along I thought it was just one! Such a pity I never knew before! Finally, I used to aim to buy something from the dump every time I went, a sort of tit for tat, but the prices seemed to go up and up and eventually it wasn't really worth it though I often see things that would be useful. Rather than increasing charges why not keep them low and encourage people to take things away? Wouldn't there be benefits in that? Re-using has surely got to be better than going to landfill or even recycling? |
