"Did you have the requisite photo ID and address ID at Townmead?" Philippa, there was no need to provide any evidence of my address, and was not asked for it, because I told the truth and said I lived in Chiswick. After a short and not unpleasant discussion I was asked if I paid my council tax to Hounslow (my green Hounslow rubbish bag gave me away)and when I said yes I did I was told that I was therefore not permitted to use Townmead. No request for £41, just a total ban. I was also told that Hounslow had not paid £60,000 but I don't know who to or what for. I imagine to Richmond. It was only when I rang Richmond later that they changed the total ban to a £41 charge. Townmead is my nearest and preferred dump but at least I can use Ealing. What I find simply extraordinary is that different people tell me different things and that even John Todd has been unable to get an answer from Hounslow Council as to whether we could have a reciprocal agreement with Richmond; after all, why should Hounslow council tax payers accept Richmond rubbish but not vice versa. No-one even seems able to give me a reason for this. But even that doesn't really matter: what I object to is that it was OK until last week for Hounslow taxpayers to use Townmead but now it isn't and no-one seems to know why!! My photo id showing my address has been accepted for 8 years but no longer. It's not as if I go very often or take very much. Perhaps I should just accept that those we vote in are, underneath all the front, quite daft. Richmond and Hounslow share a long border and it seems to me to make great sense to share facilities. |
