I'd forgotten about the Sunday parking changes but they clearly have some bearing on what has been going on here. Quite what is hard to know for sure but the benefit of the allocated parking once the Sunday parking restrictions came into place became much more valuable. The other markets must have wanted the same privilege and initially maybe the parking officer decided the near permanent loss of the car park on Sundays was not justifiable. The council then flipflopped when there was an uproar. Whether the changes will solve the traffic and parking problems is hard to know. As well as the resident only bays being enforced and the loss of the car park, there is a significant loss of single yellow line parking. I'd anticipate a ticket bonanza for wardens for the first few markets and then the displacement of the parking traffic problem elsewhere as people locate surviving free parking. |
