I walk my do most Sundays on Chiswick Back Common and have been observing the markets since they started, often carrying on down to the High Road to visit. Based on this I would say that it is hard to notice any difference to traffic and parking north of the High Road when the cheese or street food markets are on. It used to be bad with the antiques market with some really anti-social parking but a directive seems to have gone out to take greater car and possibly to park elsewhere. The main problem seems to be with the Flower Market. This is a sign of success and I welcome the extra traffic it brings but we do need to bear in mind people live in the streets affected. I don't observe problems every month - it seems largely to depend on the weather but when its fine you do see cars circling around looking for parking. If the flower market vans were found parking elsewhere that isn't going to solve the problem but it might reduce the impact of the event just a bit. |
