| This reminds me of the story, (no doubt apocryphal,) of the farmer who was woken by the noise of his barn being burgled. He called the police who said there was no one available to attend. After arguing he rang off and then called back a few minutes later and said it was no longer urgent as he had just shot the burglars. Shortly after half the counties police force was in the yard arresting the burglars. A somewhat irate officer in charge accosted the farmer and said, “I thought you said you had shot them!” The farmer replied, “I thought you said there was no one available to attend.” |
