That's exactly the point. Very few locals are raising objections to the cinema in principle - in fact most support it strongly including me - but the impact on local parking must be considered. The EC controlled zone times are Mon-Sat 9am-7pm - most cinema parking will be in the evenings or Sunday when the local roads are not controlled. Hence there is a real risk that the local roads become the cinema car park - and the original parking survey's conclusion that there were 300 available parking spaces is clearly nonsense. All that needs to happen I believe is that the controlled zone times are extended (say to 9pm after evening film showings have started plus Sunday controls) + additional visitor vouchers made available free to local residents. If this is a condition of the planning then I think the issue would be fixed. |
