"Their houses are expensive so they have a right to stop people parking outside them? What a bizarrely elitist perspective." No, I'm merely suggesting that potentially scores of extra cars should be prevented from parking in nearby residential streets at night and weekends. A sensible solution would be to extend the CPZ times for the closest streets to 7 or 8pm on weekday evenings to allow residents to get back and park. That way, if the residents themselves return much later at, say, 11pm, the cinema goers who parked after 8pm will have gone, giving the best solution for everyone. "Should people who live in Marylebone or Knightsbridge have preferential access to kerbside parking on the same basis?" Yes, it called a CPZ, people pay an annual fee to have a decent chance of parking close to their (expensively) purchased home and to stop others from being free to park there at all times - central Chiswick has lots of them. "Commuter parking is prevented by a CPZ; extending its hours will mean fewer people visiting restaurants and bars in the evening." It's more likely that extending the CPZ a little will merely encourage more people to walk or take public transport to the cinema, or to park further away from it and walk for 5-7 mins to reach it, spreading the impact of the extra car parking/noise of people getting in and out of cars late at night. "CHR is in decline; shops go, estate agents fill the gaps." Shopping is going online - come back in 25 years and see what sort of shops there will be on CHR. "There's precious little reason to visit [CHR] at all any more." There are lots of reasons to visit, take a walk down central CHR on a Friday or Sat night, the place is literally teeming with restaurant and bar goers. "I would be very disappointed if this great proposal does not go through." So would I, but the closest residents should probably be protected through some sort of additional parking control - or by the possibility of introducing it at a later stage if required - and by the changes the thoughtful Picture House Group have already decided on - e.g. closing the roof terrace around 10pm or whatever, and closing the bars etc around midnight. If you haven't already written to the planning department giving your support, you may still be able to. |
