"they would not get permission to open there now" You what? Having lived at that end of the High Road for five years or so it's been declining since I can remember economically. I'm not sure allowing NIMBYs to oppose any form of economic investment in the area will help this but it might explain it. There's no good reason why a site with the 27, 190, 237, 267, 391 and H91 buses, two nearby Tube stations as well as (fingers crossed) a cycle superhighway right outside should generate excess parking and it should be a condition of planning permission that the operators make positive steps to encourage non-car travel. Also I bet a lot of us drive to Park Royal, Hammersmith and so on to the cinema now, so there's arguably a positive benefit to traffic levels opening a local one you don't need to drive to and can't easily park at. |
