When I moved here 33 years ago it was a quiet suburb, with independent shops along the High Road, Devonshire Road and Turnham Green Terrace serving local needs. Now, it is an unbalanced area where useful shops have been replaced by venues catering to entertainment. It is impossible to get a decent night's sleep with the amount of late night opening and selfishness of patrons (often in various stages of drunkeness) who shout and slam car doors until the early hours, never mind the amplified muzak that is deafening even when doors are closed. The cinema is another nail in the coffin. Why is it necessary to show films so late at night? Not everyone is able or wants to to lie in for half the day at the weekend. |
