Dave You are correct. The BATA (British Air Transport Association), BAA, BA and Virgin lobbies are trying to claim that the economic interests of this country as a whole are synonymous with their own interests as owners and stakeholders in Heathrow. In my view the converse could well be true. The economic interests of this country as a whole and the creation of wealth and more jobs in the country as a whole will be best served by developing airport capacity at alternative locations to Heathrow and outside the over-crowded,over-heated and expensive London and the South-East. Germany is the most successful economy in Europe. It does not rely on one massive airport to sustain its wealth, growth and exports. Instead it has a number of airports located near various big cities and in various regions such as Frankfurt, Munchen, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Koln/Bonn and Hannover that provide both hub flights and point to point flights near to where people live and work.
