"BAA also ignore flights to HK, which LHR completely dominates versus other European airports." Yes, that struck me as a bit odd. London-Hong Kong is one of the world's great air routes, after all, and perfect for upgrading to A380 use, given that BA and Virgin will all operate them soon (BA's first A380 flew on the 9th November and Hong Kong's strongly tipped as the first route to get them). HK has eight daily flights, five of which leave within 80 minutes during the late evening, on three airlines (BA, Virgin, Cathay). That doesn't strike me as an especially efficient use of slots, even if they're all full (two 777s, and A340 and two 747s). Does rather show what competition does on a route. |
