| Having seen the report on the deferral of the decision last night I dipped into the YouTube video of the meeting. A couple of things struck me in the bits I happened on - admiration for Cllrs Bowring and Lambert for sticking to their views in the face of strong opposition in the room (not that those in attendance were hostile or intimidating). It was odd that the Labour Group had not been more effectively whipped on this issue. Unlike with private developers there is little risk that the CIC would take the council to court but the borough will be on the hook for any shortfalls in revenue. Perhaps I am being cynical but it smelt a bit stage managed. The proposal of a reduction in the number of events was accepted quite quickly by the CIC and the Labour Group's Chief Whip made the proposal to defer. |
